Mr. Barber’s chemistry classes traveled to WestGate today for a fun Rube Goldberg project. Students learned about energy transfers, the importance of communication, and reverse engineering to troubleshoot challenges.  Students also learned about career opportunities at Crane. Thank you to the STEM team at WestGate for this great morning.

MSD of Shakamak plans to operate on a regular schedule Wednesday, December 17th.

Sun and warmer temperatures have improved road conditions today, and additional roads have been plowed. Some gravel and secondary roads may still be slushy or snow-covered in places. Please slow down, use caution, and allow extra travel time.

We will continue to monitor conditions closely.

Important Notice for Families – Increased Police Presence on December 11
Shakamak High School is hosting a special civics education event with the Indiana Court of Appeals. As part of this program, a panel of judges will hold live appellate court arguments in our auditorium.
Because of this event, you may notice an increased law-enforcement presence on campus this morning and early afternoon. Please know there is no emergency. This presence is a part of the coordinated security measures required when hosting state-level judicial officials.
We are excited for our students to experience this unique educational opportunity and to see the legal system in action.
Thank you for your understanding and support as we welcome our guests to Laker Nation!

With winter weather expected to move into our area over the next day or two, this is a good time to share a short video that explains exactly how MSD of Shakamak makes weather delay and closure decisions.

Many families don’t see the 4:00 AM road checks, the visibility assessments, the coordination across Greene, Sullivan and Clay counties, or the work our Transportation Director and local partners do before a decision is made. This video, created with the help of our student interns, gives you a transparent look at what happens behind the scenes.

Watch the video to learn more about our process

This is not an announcement of a delay or closure. We will continue to monitor conditions closely and communicate any decisions as early as possible.

Thank you for your support and understanding as we navigate Indiana winter together. Stay safe and warm, Lakers!

This evening, I had the honor of attending our National Honor Society Induction Ceremony. Induction into NHS is more than an academic achievement. It reflects a commitment to integrity, service to others, and leading by example both in and out of the classroom.

Congratulations to our newest members and thank you to our faculty and families who continue to support and guide these students.

We are proud of you.

The Culinary classes have been busy. It has become a tradition for Culinary students to make their own pie in class to take home and share for during the Thanksgiving holiday. Students learn the art of making pastry and then assemble a double crust fruit pie.
