Best of luck to Wyatt Zimmerman, Ryder Caddell, Colton Keller, and Jeramiah Kennett as they represent Shakamak at the State Small Engines Contest tomorrow. Opportunities like this reflect both the students’ hard work and the strong leadership of Ms. Kenna Slough. We’re proud of each of them and look forward to hearing how they do.

The City of Jasonville will be repairing a water main on Tuesday, April 28 beginning at 3:00 PM. As a result, there will be a temporary water shutoff followed by a boil order in effect through Friday, May 1. During this time, regular tap water will not be available for drinking.
The school will provide access to safe drinking water as needed, and drinking fountains will not be in use. We encourage all students to bring a water bottle from home each day to help ensure they stay hydrated. Our team is working to maintain a safe and smooth school day despite these temporary conditions, and we will communicate any additional updates if needed.
We are very proud of their efforts and their representation of Shakamak. Wade finished 175th and Hart finished 253rd. Hart & Wade will return to Chicago next weekend with the rest of the Quiz Bowl Team to compete in the Small School National Quiz Bowl Tournament. For the next tournament, Shakamak is identified as a VSS (Very Small School) and yet we will be there competing with the other schools from across the United States.

Students who signed up participated in hands-on learning and were proud to earn their certificates upon completion. They gained valuable knowledge in adult and infant CPR, AED use, choking response, and essential childcare and caregiving skills.
A special thank you to Ashley White, RN from Greene County General Hospital, for leading this impactful training and sharing her expertise with our students.
We are also grateful to City Connects and Greene County General Hospital for partnering with us to provide this meaningful opportunity. Experiences like this help prepare our students to be confident, capable, and ready to care for others.

Pictures from a wild day at Shakamak Elementary! 🐾
Thanks to Silly Safari for an unforgettable experience. Lots of smiles, curiosity, and a few brave moments as students met some amazing critters up close.
Come out Monday, 4:30-8:30, to Pizza Villa to support the Shakamak Drone Team as they raise money for North Central Championship.

We also want to congratulate Board Member Braionna Barber, who earned an individual Commendable Award for her dedication to growth and leadership as a school board member. Thank you to our board for your service, leadership, and commitment to Shakamak students!

Even more importantly, she challenged our students to focus on the skills that matter in any career—communication, teamwork, and staying curious.
Experiences like this help our students see what’s possible beyond the classroom. We’re grateful for partners like the Battery Innovation Center for investing in our students and their futures!

Every year, band students from across Greene County come together for a special musical tradition, the Greene County Band Festival. Hosted at a different school each year, the festival brings together students and directors from all county schools to collaborate on a shared concert experience.
With guidance from a guest conductor from one of Indiana’s respected schools of music, directors select a set of pieces for students to begin preparing months in advance. The festival culminates in a full day of rehearsal, followed by an evening concert featuring this impressive combined ensemble.
For students, performing in such a large group under the direction of a guest conductor is an incredible musical experience. It’s also a great opportunity to connect with fellow musicians from across the county.
And from the audience’s perspective, there’s nothing quite like hearing a massive ensemble made up of students from so many schools performing together. Even better when more than 20 Shakamak students are part of that sound!

Guest speaker Mark Messmer shared a powerful story about a father who competed in triathlons and Ironman races with his son with disabilities, a moving reminder of perseverance, love, and what can be accomplished together.
Congratulations to these students for representing Shakamak so well through their commitment to academic excellence. We are proud of you! 💙
