In April, Shakamak students traveled to WestGate for the annual Crane Engineering Design Competition. Students worked in teams to code robots and navigate an obstacle course, putting their problem-solving and critical thinking skills to the test. Sometimes the biggest ideas start with one student simply noticing a need. Shakamak student, Elijah, saw students and families who could use a little extra support and decided to do something about it. What started as a simple “Helping Box” has grown into something much bigger, a reminder of what can happen when compassion, generosity, and community come together.
Today, the Helping Box is more than just a place to share items. It has become a symbol of students stepping up, people helping people, and Shakamak coming together to care for one another. We are proud of Elijah for turning an idea into action and for showing what leadership and kindness look like in real life.
