The Indiana Commission for Higher Education recently announced that a record 328 Indiana high schools are offering the Indiana College Core during the 2026–2027 school year, and MSD of Shakamak is proud to be among them.
The Indiana College Core is a block of 30 hours of college-level general education coursework—the equivalent of approximately one year of college. Students can complete these credits while still in high school, often at little to no cost to their families.
Once earned, the Indiana College Core transfers as a complete block to every Indiana public college and university, as well as 11 participating private institutions. This can help students reduce future tuition, housing, and campus costs while giving them greater flexibility after graduation. Depending on their plans, students may be able to graduate from college early, pursue additional areas of study, or enter the workforce sooner.
Statewide data also show that students who earn the Indiana College Core are more likely to enroll in college and complete their degrees on time or early.
For Shakamak students, the Indiana College Core is one more way to begin preparing for life beyond high school while remaining connected to their teachers, school, and community. It reflects our continued commitment to expanding meaningful academic opportunities and helping students graduate with credentials that carry value beyond a high school diploma.
Students and families interested in learning more about completing the Indiana College Core at Shakamak should contact the Junior-Senior High School Guidance Office. Additional information and a planning tool are available at MyCollegeCore.org.
